Royal Enfield to set up a new factory in Tamil Nadu

The bike maker is reportedly planning to invest Rs 1,000-1,500 crore in the next 12-24 months.

According to a media report, Royal Enfield plans to set up a new manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu. The new factory will produce future EVs and global models.

The report states that Royal Enfield has acquired a 60-acre parcel of land in Cheyyar, on the outskirts of Chennai, for the new plant. The bike maker is reportedly planning to invest Rs 1,000-1,500 crore in the next 12-24 months.

The Cheyyar plant is expected to come online by 2025. Initially, Royal Enfield plans to build its internal combustion engine motorcycles at this facility, but work has already begun to ensure a smooth transition to EVs.

Royal Enfield currently has a manufacturing capacity of over 1 million units per annum split between two factories – Oragadam and Vallam Vadagal. The Cheyyar plant will help the company secure its future by adding capacity.
