Rumour: 2017 BMW 5-Series India launch in June

BMW will likely launch the 2017 5-Series (G30) in India by the end of June this year. The German automaker has already showcased the new-gen 5-Series to potential customers in the country.

The new 5-Series was globally unveiled in October last year. The seventh-generation model has been built on the company's Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform. With the use of lightweight high strength materials, BMW claims to have reduced the new-gen model's weight by up to 100 kg. It is also 36 mm longer, 6 mm wider and 2 mm taller than the model it replaces, while the wheelbase is up by 7 mm.

The India-spec model is expected to come with one petrol and two diesel engine options. The petrol will likely be a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that will be rated at 249 BHP and 350 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the diesel options will include a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder unit that churns out 188 BHP and 400 Nm of torque, and a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder powerplant that develops 262 BHP and 620 Nm of torque.

Once launched, the BMW 5-Series G30 will compete against the recently launched Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB, Audi A6 and Jaguar XF.
