Rumour: Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS to be relaunched with BSIV engine

Media reports claim that Bajaj will relaunch the Pulsar 200 NS in India in mid-January 2017. The updated bike will feature similar design but will be equipped with a BSIV compliant engine.

Bajaj reportedly discontinued the Pulsar 200 NS around April 2015, though no official announcement was made about this step. The two-wheeler manufacturer continued producing the bike for exports, while it was silently withdrawn from the Indian market. This was likely done due to production constraints at the bike maker's Chakan plant, which intensified with the launch of the AS 150, AS 200 and the new Avenger range. Moreover, since the AS 200 was launched at a similar price tag and offered a bit more equipment, Bajaj decided to pull the plug on the 200 NS, and thus provide a launch pad for the AS series.

However, the AS series didn't manage to achieve the numbers that the NS was doing before its discontinuation. As a result, Bajaj has now decided to bring back the 200 NS to the Indian market and further boost sales of the Pulsar range.

The new model might get some minor cosmetic tweaks in the form of stickers, while the overall structure of the bike is expected to remain unchanged. Powering the 200 NS is a 199.5 cc liquid cooled, 4 valve, single cylinder triple spark engine that develops around 23 BHP and 18.3 Nm, while being mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

Reports also suggest that the new 200 NS will come with a single-channel ABS, similar to what is offered with the RS 200. Bajaj is also expected to update the RS 200 with a BSIV engine by the end of January next year.
