Rumour: Baleno to be first Maruti re-badged as a Toyota

In March 2018, Toyota and Suzuki had signed an agreement to supply cars to each other in India. Now, according to a media report, Maruti Suzuki's first car to be re-badged as a Toyota, will be the Baleno.

It has been reported that the move has been finalized by the headquarters of both brands, which are located in Japan. Toyota is likely to make minor changes to the Baleno and these have already been approved. The car is expected to get revised headlamps and tail lamps, a new grille and redesigned interiors.

The two companies have also agreed upon the number of vehicles to be supplied. Suzuki will reportedly supply 20,000 to 25,000 Balenos annually to Toyota.

The re-badged Baleno is likely to be sold through Toyota's retail network in India from the first quarter of the next fiscal. Other vehicles that are likely to be re-badged in the coming years include the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Toyota Corolla.
