Rumour: BMW Urban X to be positioned below the X1

According to a media report, BMW is working on a new SUV that will slot in below the X1. It is said to be the first BMW SUV to have a different naming structure. It could be called the Urban X (pronounced as Urban Cross).

The Urban X might measure between 4.1 and 4.2 m in length. In comparison, the X1 measures 4,439 mm and the X2 measures 4,360 mm. The SUV is said to be based on BMW's UKL2 architecture, which supports electrification. Along with regular internal combustion engines, the car could get a 48V mild-hybrid system, a plug-in hybrid and maybe even a fully-electric variant with a range of more than 386 km.

It has been reported that in the first half of 2019, almost 45% of BMW's sales comprised of SUVs.
