Rumour: Hyundai Elantra facelift to only get a 2.0L Petrol

According to a media report, the Hyundai Elantra facelift is likely to be offered solely with a petrol engine option. The car is rumoured to be launched later this month.

It has been reported that the updated Elantra could be offered with same 2.0-litre petrol engine as the outgoing model but is likely to be updated to comply with BS-VI emission norms.

The Elantra is unlikely to get a diesel engine option at launch, but it could be introduced at a later date. The 1.6-litre diesel unit is expected to be replaced with a 1.5-litre unit that also powers the Kia Seltos.

Sales figures indicate that customer preference has shifted towards petrol variants, especially in this segment. Hyundai reportedly sold 214 petrol Elantras from April-July 2019 compared to 90 diesel versions. It is believed that this shift in preference could be behind Hyundai's decision.
