Rumour: Hyundai Verna 1.4L petrol priced at Rs. 7.29 lakh

Just days following the launch of the new Verna in India, it was reported that Hyundai was working on an entry-level version with a smaller 1.4-litre petrol engine. Now, according to a recent media report, the base Verna 1.4-litre petrol in E trim could be priced at Rs. 7.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). A more expensive EX variant with the same engine but additional features is also likely to be introduced.

In terms of equipment, the base 1.4 E variant gets the same features as the entry-level trim with the 1.6-litre engine. The Verna 1.4 E reportedly comes with 15-inch steel wheels, tilt steering, power mirrors, cooled glove box, rear centre armrest as well as ABS and airbags. The higher EX variant is expected to get additional features like keyless entry, rear parking sensors, projector fog lamps, cruise control, height adjustable driver's seat, front armrest, 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and rear AC vents.

The 1,368 cc, 4-cylinder petrol engine powering the new Verna has been borrowed from the i20 1.4 AT but Hyundai hasn't confirmed its output figures. In the hatchback, the engine is tuned to produce 98.6 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and has a peak torque of 133 Nm @ 4,000 rpm and comes paired with a 4-speed automatic gearbox.
