Rumour: Innova Crysta could get locally built petrol engine

Toyota is expected to launch the Innova Crysta in India soon. The MPV was displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo in February and Toyota had revealed that it would come with 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre diesel engines, along with a 2.0-litre petrol unit.

The petrol engine for the Innova Crysta will be sourced from Toyota's global operations. However, there are rumours that the company might manufacture the engine in India as well. Later this month, Toyota is planning to brief its Indian vendors about the possibility of manufacturing this engine in the country.

In the years gone by, the Innova was available with a petrol engine. However, Toyota discontinued the engine as the demand was poor. The company has been forced to reconsider a petrol power plant for the car due to the ban on cars with diesel engines larger than 2,000cc in New Delhi.
