Rumour: KTM to introduce slipper clutch on RC range

Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM is rumoured to be considering the introduction of a slipper clutch on its RC range of motorcycles.

The slipper clutch is used to prevent the rear wheel of a bike from locking up during downshifting, which, in turn, prevents the loss of traction. Also known as the back torque limiter, it allows the clutch to slip until the engine speed matches the speed of the bike. This enables the rider to downshift aggressively and keep the bike stable under heavy braking. The addition of the technology will make the bikes more rider-friendly. However, it will also result in an increase in their prices. Even so, we expect the RC390 and RC200 to be the most affordable bikes in the country with slipper clutches.

Slipper clutches are available on many superbikes in India. The technology is also available on the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the company is expected to equip the Z250 with it as well.
