Rumour: Mahindra S102 to get new petrol engine

Mumbai-based automaker, Mahindra is said to be in the process of developing a new range of three petrol engines which will be used in the company's upcoming models. This range of engines is being developed in association with Korean automobile manufacturer SsangYong.

A report by Autocar India suggests that these engines will range between 1.2-litre and 1.6-litres in capacity and comply with Euro-VI emission norms. The 1.2 will be a 3-cylinder unit and the other two will be 4-pot motors. The 1.2 is likely to be used in Mahindra's upcoming compact SUV, which has been codenamed S102. The S102 will be positioned below the Quanto in the company's line-up.  SsangYong's X100 SUV is also expected to use an engine from the new range. Parts will be common across the entire engine family.

Most of the new engine development will take place at Mahindra Research Valley near Chennai. AVL of Austria is said to be consultant in this project.
