Rumour: Mahindra S201 SUV to get 5 & 7 seat versions

Mahindra is working on a Ssangyong Tivoli-based SUV (codenamed: S201) for the Indian market. According to a media report, the S201 SUV will be offered in 5 and 7 seat configurations.

The Tivoli is based on Ssangyong's X100 platform that will be modified to suit the sub-4 meter version of the Mahindra S201. The 7-seater variant is likely to be based on the Tivoli XLV, which is slightly longer than the standard model. The additional 238-mm rear overhang should be enough for a pair of seats.

The sub-4 meter S201 is expected to take on the Tata Nexon and Maruti Vitara Brezza in the compact SUV segment, while the 7-seater version would rival the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster. Earlier reports suggest that the S201 could be offered with a 1.2-litre, turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel.

As far as 7-seater SUVs are concerned, Mahindra is also working on a stretched version of the TUV300. It will be called the TUV300 Plus and it is expected to be launched in near future.
