Rumour: Mahindra XUV Aero concept to enter production

Mahindra is reported to have decided to bring the XUV Aero concept into production. The company is likely to soon develop working prototypes of the model and subsequently start the testing process of the vehicle.

The XUV Aero was shown as a design study concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. The company claims to have received a satisfactory response and customer interest for the SUV Coupe design and thus, decided to consider it for production. While the concept's front fascia was similar to that of the XUV500, the side profile showcased a sloping roof line that gave it a coupe-like silhouette. The concept vehicle also came with suicide doors, though it is highly unlikely that Mahindra will use them in the production version. The rear was characterized by high-placed tail lamps and a boxy tailgate area.

Not much information is available about the powertrain options of the XUV Aero. While it might continue to draw power from the XUV500's 2.2-litre, four-cylinder mHawk diesel engine, it might also get an all-electric powertrain, which will make it the first all-electric SUV available in the country.
