Mahindra Y400 named Alturas G4. Bookings open

Mahindra's upcoming SUV (codenamed: Y400) has been named Alturas G4 - which means "height" or "pinnacle". Earlier, we had reported that the SUV would be launched on November 19, 2018. However, the launch has now been scheduled for November 24, 2019 and dealerships have started taking bookings.

The Alturas was displayed at the 2018 Auto Expo. It is based on the SsangYong G4 Rexton. It comes with a 7-slat grille up front flanked by wraparound projector headlamps. The SUV features flared wheel arches, wraparound tail lamps and dual-tone bumpers. On the inside, the SUV is likely to get a touchscreen infotainment system, sunroof and leather upholstery.

The SUV is likely to be powered by a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that could be paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system.

The Mahindra Alturas will compete with the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the Isuzu MU-X in the Indian market.
