Rumour: Maruti mulls pure-CNG models

According to a media report, Maruti is mulling pure-CNG models.

According to CV Raman, Senior Executive Director, Maruti Suzuki, the carmaker has been looking into pure-CNG models but the lack of sufficient CNG infrastructure is said be one of the constraints.

The report states that the government has plans to set up 10,000 CNG filling stations by 2030. But, at present there are only 1,856 CNG filling stations in India.

Maruti offers CNG variants of the Alto, Alto K10, Celerio, WagonR, Eeco and Ertiga. These cars come with petrol-CNG bi-fuel engines that are modified to run on CNG. But, CNG requires a higher compression ratio of 13:1 to 14:1 for it to perform at its best.
