Rumour: Maruti S-Cross facelift won't get 1.6L diesel option

Maruti Suzuki is likely to launch the S-Cross facelift next month. According to a media report, the company might discontinue the 1.6-litre diesel engine and offer the vehicle only with the 1.3-litre unit.

The report claims that the demand for the 1.6-litre version of the S-Cross has been low, which has prompted dealerships to stop accepting new orders for it. The report also claims that production of the said variant has been terminated. Apparently, the 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder diesel will be the only engine on offer. This unit produces 89 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 200 Nm @ 1,750 rpm. The 1.3-litre motor could be offered with the same 5-speed manual transmission as the current S-Cross.

Spy images have indicated that the S-Cross facelift will get revised front end styling comprising of a new chrome grille with vertical slats, a new set of headlight clusters with projectors and a reworked front bumper. It is also likely to get a redesigned rear bumper, tail lights and a new set of alloy wheels. The interior is likely to remain unchanged apart from an updated infotainment system.

While official bookings for the S-Cross are rumoured to open on September 1, 2017, dealerships are reported to have started accepting bookings.
