Rumour: Maruti Super Carry diesel variant to be discontinued

According to a media report, Maruti Suzuki is likely to discontinue the diesel variant of the Super Carry LCV from April 1, 2020, when BS-VI emission regulations kick in.

The Super Carry is powered by a 793cc, 2-cylinder diesel engine which produces 32 BHP @ 3,500 rpm and 75 Nm of torque @ 2,000 rpm. According to Maruti Suzuki, the development cost of upgrading this engine to meet BS-VI regulations is too high. Therefore, from April 1, 2020, this engine will no longer be available in the Super Carry.

Reports suggest that Maruti will continue to offer the 1.2-litre petrol engine on the Super Carry beyond the BS-VI deadline. This engine produces 64 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 85 Nm @ 3,000 rpm and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It comes with a factory-fitted CNG kit.
