Rumour: Maruti Suzuki Ignis to launch in India on January 13

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly planning to launch the Ignis hatchback crossover in India on January 13, 2016. The company hasn’t yet officially announced the launch date. Ignis will be sold through Nexa dealerships, and will thus share showroom space with the Baleno and the S-Cross.

The Ignis was previously showcased in India as a production-ready concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. It will be a replacement of the Maruti Ritz, and will thus likely be placed one slot lower than the Swift. However, it will come with various added features in comparison to the Ritz. Some of the expected components of the Ignis' feature list include projector headlamps, LED DRLs and a touchscreen infotainment system.

The Maruti Ignis will be powered by Maruti's 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines. Both these power plants will get a 5-speed manual as standard, while an automatic variant is also expected to be offered.
