Rumour: Maruti Vitara Brezza petrol launch in February 2020

According to a media report, Maruti Suzuki might launch the petrol variant of the Vitara Brezza in February 2020.

Reports suggest that the Brezza is likely to get a BS-VI compliant 1.5-litre petrol engine that is also available on the Ciaz and Ertiga. This engine comes with Maruti's mild-hybrid technology and produces 103 BHP and 138 Nm of torque. It is believed that Maruti might initially offer the Brezza petrol with a 5-speed manual. A 4-speed automatic transmission could be introduced at a later date. With the introduction of the 1.5-litre engine, the Vitara Brezza will not qualify for excise duty benefits that sub-4 meter cars with engines smaller than 1.2-litre receive.

At present, the Vitara Brezza is only offered with a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine. This engine produces 89 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm @ 1,750 rpm. It comes with two transmission options including a 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).

The 1.3-litre diesel engine is likely to be discontinued once BS-VI emission regulations come into effect from April 1, 2020.
