Rumour: Maruti YBA to be called Vitara Brezza

The upcoming compact SUV from Maruti Suzuki has been spotted on a few occasions. The vehicle, codenamed YBA, bears resemblance to the Suzuki iV-4 concept, which was showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013. Media reports suggest that the car will be called the Vitara Brezza (Brezza means breeze in Italian). Maruti Suzuki is rumoured to have registered the name.

The Vitara Brezza is expected to have a length of less than 4 metres. That will make it a rival for the Ford EcoSport. The car's design is influenced by the Suzuki iV-4 concept, which was showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013. For the production version, the company is likely to tone down the aggressive look of the concept. The greenhouse of the SUV looks similar to that of the Swift hatchback and the XA-Alpha concept, which was showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo.

The Vitara Brezza is likely to be powered by a 1.3-litre, DDiS diesel engine. The SUV will be available in L, V, V+, Z, and Z+ variants.

Maruti Suzuki is likely to debut the Vitara Brezza in the first quarter of 2016.
