Rumour: Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 4x2 auto launch on Nov 15

Mitsubishi will launch a two-wheel drive version of the Pajero Sport with an automatic gearbox on November 15.

The Pajero Sport 4x2 automatic is expected to use the same 2.5-litre, turbo charged, diesel engine as the 4x4 manual variant. The unit produces 178 PS and 400 Nm of torque and is likely to be coupled to a 5-speed transmission.

The new variant is expected to be priced lower than the 4x4 manual version. While the automatic gearbox will make the car less stressful to drive in heavy traffic conditions, the lower price should make it accessible for a larger audience.

The Pajero Sport has not had a very successful run in the Indian market. Its sales have lagged far behind its main competitor, the Toyota Fortuner - partly due to the price and partly due to a below par dealer network.
