Rumour: New-gen BMW 5-Series (G30) India launch on June 29

As per some media reports, BMW will launch the new-generation 5-Series in India on June 29, 2017. This will mark the introduction of the seventh-generation model of the executive luxury sedan in India.

The next-gen 5-Series is built on the Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform. This makes it lighter by around 100 kg, in comparison to the outgoing model. This weight reduction has been achieved by use of light weight, high strength materials in the platform's construction, despite an increase in proportions of the new-gen model.

The new BMW 5-Series also borrows various semi-autonomous driving technologies from its elder sibling - the 7-Series. These include lane change assistant, lane keeping assistant with active side collision protection, crossing traffic warning and optional Active Cruise Control (ACC) system. The car will also be equipped with a stereo camera, radar, and ultrasound sensors to monitor the driving conditions around it.

In India, the 2017 5-Series is expected to come with three powertrain options - a 2.0-litre petrol rated at 249 BHP and 350 Nm, a 2.0-litre diesel that puts out 188 BHP and 400 Nm and a top-end 3.0-litre diesel with 262 BHP and 620 Nm available on tap. An 8-speed Steptronic gearbox is expected to be offered as standard with all three engines.
