Rumour: New Hyundai Santro to launch in second half of 2018

Hyundai Motor India's CEO and Managing Director - YK Koo, has indicated that the company might launch the new Santro in India in the second half of next year. This will mark the revival of the Santro brand name in the country, after it was officially discontinued in 2015.

Though deeper details about the new Santro haven't been revealed yet, reports suggest that it will be offered with two petrol engines - a 1.1-litre and a 1.2-litre. It will be introduced to fill the gap between the Eon and the Grand i10, which has widened after the regular i10 was discontinued last year.

It is also being reported that the new car might get a new name as well. However, Hyundai hasn't yet commented on the same. The car is being developed by the company's global R&D team, with inputs from the Indian arm's R&D centre in Hyderabad.
