Rumour: New Maruti Swift to be launched in early 2018

The next-gen Suzuki Swift is being showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. Maruti officials present at the event have reportedly indicated that the hatchback will be launched in India in the early months of next year. The car is expected to be showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo.

The new Swift is built on a completely new platform called HEARTECT. Suzuki claims that this platform has been designed and engineered to be stiffer and lighter than the older model. The automaker has also indicated that the new Swift has been tuned to come with sportier dynamics.

The new-generation Swift was unveiled for the Japanese markets in December last year. The India-spec model is expected to borrow most of the design cues from the International variants. However, it is likely that the car will be tuned to suit Indian conditions and could get higher ground clearance and some feature-related manipulations.

The Swift in India is expected to be offered with the same 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol and 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engines that are available in the current model. However, Maruti might retune these power plants for the new model.
