Rumour: Nissan developing India-specific 5th-gen Micra

According to a media report Nissan is developing an India-specific Micra based on the 5th-gen model, which was unveiled at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.

The new Micra is based on Nissan's V-platform, but the Indian version will use a heavily revised architecture with similar styling but more compact proportions. In a bid to keep cost down, the car is likely to feature less sophisticated underpinnings compared to its European counterpart. Features like LED DRLs, touchscreen infotainment system and automatic climate control that are offered by rival brands are likely to make it on to the India-specific Micra.

Moreover, the current set of engines will be carried over on the new model. At present, the Micra is offered with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine with 76 BHP and 104 Nm of torque and a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel that makes 63 BHP and 160 Nm. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard, while the petrol engine comes with a 5-speed CVT option. In terms of features, the current Micra comes with automatic headlamps and LED tail lights, rain sensing wipers, automatic climate control, multi-functional steering wheel, ABS with EBD and brake assist as well as dual airbags.
