Rumour: Nissan GT-R to be launched by end of 2015

Last year, we had reported that Nissan was considering the considering the GT-R sports car for the Indian market. Now, media reports suggest that the car could be launched by the end of 2015.

The GT-R is powered by a 3.8-litre, twin-turbocharged, V6 petrol engine that develops 542 BHP and 632 Nm of torque. The car has a 6-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive. Nissan claims that it can accelerate from 0-100 kph in 2.9 seconds.

Nissan claims that it refrained from launching the GT-R in India because it would not be able to provide after sales service. Current owners have to wait for service engineers to be flown down from Dubai to have their cars serviced. Nissan claims that mechanics have to undergo four months of training to qualify as GT-R technicians. Every dealership that sells the GT-R is expected to have a qualified technician.

The poor quality of fuel available in India was another reason for the company to have kept the GT-R away from the country.

The GT-R will be Nissan's "Halo" product and is expected to be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), which means it will attract maximum import duty. The car is likely to cost more than Rs. 2 crore.
