Rumour: Range Rover Velar to be assembled locally

According to a media report, the Range Rover Velar will be locally assembled at JLR's facility near Pune. The company is planning to start local assembly of completely knocked down (CKD) kits by January 2019.

The Range Rover Velar was launched in India in December last year. Currently, the model is imported as a completely built unit (CBU) and is available in 12 variants. Prices range from Rs. 83.34 lakh for the base variant to Rs. 1.46 crore (ex-showroom) for the D300 HSE. These prices are expected to be revised once local assemblies commence.

In India, the Velar is offered with a choice of 3 engines - a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol with 247 BHP / 365 Nm of torque, 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel with 177 BHP / 430 Nm and a 3.0-litre, V6 diesel which makes 296 BHP / 700 Nm of peak torque. All engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

At present, JLR assembles the Range Rover Evoque and Discover Sport models at its Pune plant. The company also assembles CKD kits of the Jaguar F-Pace.
