Rumour: Renault to launch compact MPV & electric car by 2020

Renault is planning to launch four new products in India by 2022. These will include a compact MPV and an electric car. The announcement was reportedly made as a part of the company's 'Drive the Future' mid-term plan during the Groupe Renault Strategic Plan Conference held in Paris on October 6, 2017.

The compact MPV is expected to be based on the Common Module Family (CMF) platform which has been jointly developed by Renault and Nissan. The CMF-A platform currently underpins the Renault Kwid and Datsun Redi-GO. Renault's only other MPV currently on sale is the Lodgy which was launched back in April 2015. In the mass segment, Datsun - Renault's sister brand offers the GO+.

The company also plans to introduce 12 electric vehicles during the same period. These will be based on a new CMF-EV platform. One of the 12 EVs will be launched in India however it is likely to be based on the low-cost CMF-A platform.
