Rumour: Scorpio might get the same automatic as the XUV500

Just a day after the launch of the XUV500 automatic, rumours are that this new generation torque converter might make its way into the Scorpio as well.

The Mahindra Scorpio currently uses an older generation 6-speed automatic gearbox from Drivetrain Systems International (DSI). It was launched in July this year. The one on the newly launched XUV500 6-speed automatic (F6F45) is sourced from Aisin Seiki.

In an interview with Autocar, Hemant Sikka, Exec VP & Chief Purchasing Officer, Automotive and Farm Sector commented that in future, there might be a possibility of this gearbox being introduced in the Scorpio. Mahindra engineers told the source that they are working with Aisin to mate the gearbox with the longitudinal-mounted engine in the RWD Scorpio. Currently, this gearbox is mated to the transversely-mounted engine in the XUV500.

The report further goes to suggest that Mahindra has several units of the DSI transmission in stock due to the poor demand of the Scorpio automatic, which manages to sell roughly 70-80 units each month.
