Rumour: Skoda mulling Karoq SUV for India

According to a media report, Skoda could be considering a new compact SUV for India. The car maker is reported to be evaluating the possibility of introducing the Karoq in the country. The car made is global debut in Sweden earlier this year. 

Skoda is expected to launch the Kodiaq by the end of 2017. It will be the company's first SUV in India following the discontinuation of the Yeti in May 2017. The Karoq will be positioned below the Kodiaq. While, the Kodiaq will compete with the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, the Karoq, which will be placed a segment below, can be expected to take on the recently launched Jeep Compass.

The Karoq is based on Volkswagen's MQB platform. It borrows styling cues from the Kodiaq, which comprises of a large trapezoidal grille with slim headlamp clusters and separate fog lamps placed below them. The rear features a sculpted tail gate with angular tail lamps.

On the inside, the Karoq is expected to be equipped with a digital instrument panel, a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with gesture control as well as driver assistance programs.

The report also claims that the Karoq is likely to be offered with a choice of five engines.
