Rumour: Skoda's 1.5L diesel engine to be discontinued

According to a media report, Skoda is not planning to upgrade its 1.5-litre diesel engine to meet BS6 regulations. Therefore, the engine is likely to be discontinued when the new emissions norms come into effect from April 2020.

In addition to the 1.5-litre diesel, Skoda could also pull the plug on the 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit. It has an output of 104 BHP and comes with either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The report suggests that Skoda could introduce a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, which could get manual and DSG automatic transmission options. Skoda might also bring in a CNG variant.

The larger 2.0-litre diesel engine that is offered in the Superb and Kodiaq is expected to be upgraded to meet the BS6 norms.
