Rumour: Suzuki Jimny assembly begins in India

The first unit of the Suzuki Jimny has been assembled in India.

In September 2020, we had reported that Suzuki plans to make India the sole production hub for the Jimny. The car would initially be assembled at the Gurgaon Plant, and later, could be manufactured in India using locally sourced components.

Now, it has come to light that according to MSIL records, 1 unit of the Jimny has been assembled at the plant in September 2020. The company aims to produce 4,000-5,000 units of the vehicle, most of which will be exported to international markets.

Maruti could introduce the Jimny in India in 2021. The car is rumoured to be priced in the sub-Rs. 10 lakh bracket and is likely to be sold through Maruti's Nexa dealerships.

The fourth-generation Jimny is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine. In international markets, this engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox.
