Rumour: Tata to build electric Tigor at Sanand plant

According to a media report, Tata Motors will manufacture the all-electric version of the Tigor compact sedan at its Sanand plant.

Tata currently builds the Nano, Tiago hatchback and the Tigor compact sedan at its Sanand facility, which has an annual capacity of 2.5 lakh units. Tata Motors has been working closely with its European Technical Centre to build all-electric drivetrains. These could soon be manufactured at Sanand. There has been no official confirmation regarding this from Tata Motors.

The car maker recently bagged a contract to supply 10,000 electric cars to the state-owned Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL). The cars will be delivered in two phases over the next 12 months. The electric vehicles are set to replace the current fleet of cars used by ministries and government departments in Delhi-NCR.

Recently, the Tata Motors European Technical Center showcased the electric Tata Tiago. The Tigor is based on the Tiago platform.
