Rumour: Tata Tiago AMT to be available in XT and XZ variants

Tata Motors will soon be launching the Tiago hatchback with an AMT gearbox. Ahead of its official launch, an image of the company's passenger car diagnostics software (TDS) has been leaked, indicating that the AMT gearbox will likely be available with the XT and XZ variants of the car.

Initially, the AMT gearbox is likely to be launched only with the petrol variants, while a diesel option might also be introduced at a later date, depending on the market's response. AMT unit for the 5-speed gearbox is expected to be sourced from Magneti-Marelli. It will be mated to the Tiago's 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine.

Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki also sources its AMT unit for the Celerio from Magneti-Marelli. However, it offers the unit across all variants, unlike Tata who would likely be offering the AMT unit with only the top two trim levels.
