Rumour: Toyota Fortuner with 500+ Nm torque coming in 2021

The Fortuner could get a new diesel engine producing 500+ Nm!

Rumours suggest that Toyota is planning to launch the updated Fortuner with a more potent engine in India sometime in early 2021.

The Fortuner facelift has already been introduced in the Southeast Asian markets. If rumours are to be believed, then the SUV could be offered with a diesel engine that churns out over 500 Nm of torque.

At present, the Fortuner comes with a 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder diesel unit that puts out 175 BHP @ 3,400 rpm and a peak torque of 450 Nm @ 1,600-2,400 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The SUV is also available with a 6-speed manual gearbox, but with lower peak torque of 420 Nm @ 1,400-2,600 rpm.

The updated Fortuner has already been spotted testing in India. It gets a redesigned exterior featuring a new grille, headlamps and bumpers. It also gets a redesigned rear fascia with new tail lamp clusters.
