Rumour: Volkswagen could launch Tiguan facelift in India

The car under wraps in Volkswagen's teaser looks like it could be the Tiguan facelift.

In January 2021, we had reported that Volkswagen had teased a new SUV for India to be launched in 2021. Rumours suggested that it could be the Atlas Cross Sport, however, it is said that the SUV could be the Tiguan facelift. The vehicle is expected to be launched after the Taigun.

The Tiguan facelift was unveiled in July 2020. It gets a larger chrome grille and twin-pod LED headlights that have crisp LED daytime running lights. The front bumper has also been updated and now gets larger vents with chrome inserts.

On the inside, the new Tiguan features an updated 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel and a redesigned centre console that comes with a touchscreen infotainment head-unit. The car also gets an 8-inch digital instrument cluster as standard, while a 10-inch unit is available as an option.

In the international market, the Tiguan is offered with a turbocharged 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol that produces 184 BHP and 300 Nm. The Tiguan R comes with a 315 BHP engine, while the plug-in hybrid variant has an output of 241 BHP.

In India, VW offers the 7-seater Tiguan Allspace. It is powered by a 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine that produces 187 BHP @ 4,200 rpm and 320 Nm @ 1,500-4,100 rpm. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The Tiguan facelift is expected to be available as a 5-seater SUV.
