German racing driver and Top Gear host Sabine Schmitz has passed away, following a long battle with cancer. She was 51 years old.

Sabine became the first female driver to win the gruelling 24 Hours of Nurburgring race. She is estimated to have completed over 20,000 laps of the track and has earned the title of the 'Queen of the Nurburgring'.

Sabine made her first Top Gear appearance back in 2004. She famously drove a Ford Transit van around the Nurburgring aiming for a sub-10 min lap time.
