Scoop: Ford testing Fiesta with automatic transmission

Thank you to BHPian rsm97 for sharing this information with other enthusiasts.

When Ford launched the Fiesta facelift in India in June 2014, it disappointed many fans and potential buyers by dropping the petrol engine and automatic gearbox from its range. However, now, the company could be mulling the addition of an automatic version of the car to its line-up.

A Fiesta with an automatic gearbox has been spied at a Ford service station in Gurgaon. An inquiry revealed that the car was being tested. Recent media reports have disclosed that Ford could use a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a DCT automatic transmission in its upcoming Figo Aspire compact sedan. These developments lead us to believe that Ford will at least be thinking of giving the Fiesta a petrol engine and an automatic transmission.

At present, most of the Fiesta's rivals such as the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid are available with automatic transmissions. Ford will not want to be left behind in the segment.
