The Tata Nexon was launched in September 2017. The compact SUV is currently offered in 4 trim levels - XE, XM, XT and XZ+. As per the current pricing, the price gap between XT and XZ+ variants is Rs. 1.45 lakh, whereas between all other variants is less than Rs. 75,000. Tata Motors would be launching an XZ variant that will slot in between the XT and the top-spec XZ+ variant to reduce the price gap.
According to the leaked brochure, the Nexon XZ variant gets features like projector headlamps, electrically foldable ORVMs and park assist with rear sensors and reverse camera. It gets LED tail lamps but misses out on the LED DRLs, front & rear fog lamps and rear defogger from the XZ+ variant. The dual tone roof option on the XZ+ variant is not available on the XZ variant and it rides on 16-inch steel wheels unlike the XZ+ which gets dual-tone alloy wheels.
The XZ variant comes equipped with a 6.5-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with an 8-speaker system from Harman. It has Android Auto connectivity and the system also allows you to read & reply to WhatsApp messages with voice commands. It has a height adjustable driver seat and adjustable seat belts. Other features include automatic climate control with rear vents, cooled glove box and a USB fast charger. It does not get front and rear central armrests and a 60:40 split folding rear seat. Safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD are standard across all variants.
The Nexon XZ will be available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine produces 108 BHP @ 5,000 rpm and 170 Nm of torque @ 1,750 - 4,000 rpm, while the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel makes 108 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and 260 Nm of torque @ 1,500 - 2,750 rpm. Both engines come paired with a 6-speed manual transmission with 3 driving modes - Eco, City and Sport. An automated manual transmission (AMT) version of the Nexon is expected to be launched in the near future.
