Seatbelt alarm stoppers delisted from e-commerce sites

Seatbelt alarm stoppers have been removed from Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal, Shopclues and Meesho.

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has directed online retailers Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal, Shopclues and Meesho to permanently delist all car seatbelt alarm stopper clips from their platforms.

The car seatbelt alarm stopper clips are said to compromise the safety of passengers as it disables the seatbelt reminder alarm. It was found that sellers were selling the clips under the garb of bottle openers or cigarette lighters. Taking note of this, the consumer protection body passed orders against 5 e-commerce companies for violation of consumer rights and unfair trade practices under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

Online retailers have responded to the order and have removed seatbelt alarm stopper slips and related products from their platforms. A total of 13,118 products have been delisted, which include 8095 clips from Amazon, 4,000-5,000 front Flipkart, 21 from Meesho, and one each from Snapdeal and Shopclues.
