Sergio Perez tests positive for Covid-19; to miss British GP

Formula 1 driver Sergio Perez has tested Covid-19 positive. Subsequently, he will miss the British GP scheduled for this weekend.

The Racing Point driver is currently under self isolation rules as per the UK law. This is a 10-day period that will also rule him out of the 2nd race at the same track in the following weekend. The 2nd race is dubbed as the 70th anniversary Grand Prix to commemorate the 70th year of the Formula 1 championship.

This will leave the Racing Point team without a driver for the weekend and it is rumoured that either Stoffel Vandoorne or Esteban Gutierrez could step in. Both the Mercedes reserve drivers are accessible to the Racing Point team. It is also possible that Nico Hulkenberg could be the one racing for the team. The FIA Race Director has stated that such a change in the team would be approved in the current situation.

While the Australian GP was cancelled after a McLaren staff tested positive, it has been noted that all stakeholders want the race to go on with the person who tested positive undergoing self isolation along with those who have been in close contact to him.
