Skoda takes charge of VW's product development for India

As part of the India 2.0 project, Skoda Auto has assumed responsibility for the Indian market on VW's behalf. The Czech brand will now lead all new product development projects in India and will also be responsible for developing a sustainable model campaign for both the VW Group brands.

The project will be headed by Gurpratap Boparai, Managing Director of Skoda Auto India. The main focus will be to introduce models based on the MQB-A0-IN platform as early as 2020.

Going forward, all models designed and built in India will be based on the VW Group's MQB-A0 modular platform, which already complies with the stricter crash regulations set to come into force in 2020. It allows for standardized components, dimensions and production processes, which reduces costs and production times.

Meanwhile, preparations for the development and production of India-specific models for Skoda and VW are already underway. The first MQB-A0-IN-based Skoda is scheduled to be launched in the Indian market in 2020.
