Skoda recently unveiled its first compact SUV, the Kylaq, for the Indian market. It has now been revealed that the carmaker was considering a 7-seater SUV based on the Kushaq instead of a sub-4 meter SUV.
On the sidelines of the Kylaq launch, Petr Janeba, Brand Director of Skoda India, said that a Kushaq-based 7-seater was evaluated. However, there was no business case for it, and hence, the company chose to go with the sub-4 meter SUV.
That being said, Janeba did state that it wasn’t the end of the road for a 7-seater SUV based on the Kushaq. The option is still on the table as far as the Kushaq successor is concerned.
The Kushaq successor is a “completely different car," Janeba said. “Next year, the facelift is coming. And then two-three years later is coming the successor model,” he added. It will be based on a different platform, which opens up the possibility of a 7-seater version.
Currently, the Kushaq is based on the MQB-A0 IN platform, derived from the VW Group's MQB architecture. It also underpins models like the Skoda Slavia, VW Taigun, and VW Virtus. The recently introduced Kylaq is based on the same platform.
