Skoda Karoq - official name of the Yeti replacement

Skoda has announced that their new compact SUV will be named as 'Karoq'. The compact SUV will replace the Yeti in the Skoda line-up. This name has been derived from the terms ‘KAA’RAQ’, which means 'car' and ‘RUQ’ that stands for 'arrow'. The Czech automaker will reveal the Yeti replacement on May 18, 2017 in Stockholm. No details about a probable India launch have surfaced yet.

The Karoq has been spotted testing multiple times with minimal camouflage. As a result, its major design characteristics have already been leaked. Spy shots indicate that the Karoq will take its design inspiration from the Kodiaq, which is Skoda's new flagship SUV. It will be built on the modular MQB platform, which is also used under the Skoda Kodiaq, VW Tiguan and the Audi Q3.

The Karoq will be offered as a 5-seater SUV, which will be placed a slot lower than the 7-seater Kodiaq. Powertrain options on offer with the Yeti replacement aren't known yet. However, it is expected to get turbocharged, four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. A plug-in hybrid variant might also be on the cards, though it will be launched later in the car's life time.
