Skoda's new compact SUV named Kamiq

Skoda has named its upcoming compact SUV the Kamiq. The vehicle is expected to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2019.

The name comes from the Inuktitut language spoken by the Inuit people that live in northern Canada and Greenland. It describes something that fits as perfectly as a second skin in every situation.

The Skoda Kamiq is a crossover based on the MQB platform. It is expected to borrow design cues from the Vision X concept that was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show last year. It is likely to get the same powertrain options as the Volkswagen T-Cross.

At present, Skoda offers a compact SUV called the Kamiq in China. This model is based on an older platform. It is available with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 109 BHP and 150 Nm of torque and is coupled with an automatic transmission.

Skoda is also working on an India-specific SUV, which is expected to debut at the 2020 Auto Expo.
