South Africa-spec VW Polo awarded 4 stars by Global NCAP

The pre-facelift Volkswagen Polo (Vivo) was awarded 2 stars by Global NCAP.

Global NCAP has released the crash test results for the Volkswagen Polo facelift, which is sold in South Africa as the Vivo. The hatchback secured a 4-star rating with 23.98/34 points for adult occupant safety and 28.63/49 points for child occupant protection. The pre-facelift version was also evaluated and could only secure a 2-star rating.

In the frontal impact test, the Polo offered good protection to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck. The driver’s and passenger’s chests showed adequate protection. The driver’s knees showed marginal protection, while the tibias showed good and adequate protection. The passenger’s tibias showed good protection. 

In the side impact test, the Polo offered weak protection to the head, marginal protection to the chest, adequate protection to the abdomen, and good protection to the pelvis.

Head protection was rated as good in the side pole impact test. Chest protection was marginal, while the abdomen showed adequate protection, and the pelvis showed good protection. 

Child seats for the 3-year-old and 18-month-old were able to prevent head exposure during the frontal impact test, offering full protection. Both child restraint systems offered full side impact protection.

The updated Volkswagen Vivo comes equipped with front airbags, seat belt pretensioner and load limiter, seat belt reminder, ESC, ISOFIX, and pedestrian protection.
