South Korea: Next-gen Hyundai Accent (Verna) spotted again

A test mule of the next-generation Hyundai Accent (known as the Verna in India) has been spotted in South Korea once again. While this vehicle is heavily camouflaged, pictures obtained earlier, have revealed some of the car's design elements.

At the front the car gets a new grille redesigned headlights. At the rear, there is a pair of redesigned tail lamp clusters and a new bumper with an integrated number plate housing. The car could also get a sunroof.

The new Accent is expected to retain the range of engines and transmissions found in the current model. There are rumours of a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine being offered in certain markets. A 7-speed dual-clutch transmission may be introduced as well.

The current Verna was launched in India in 2011. The car competes with the Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz in the C2 segment. Its sales were lagging far behind its rivals and though Hyundai gave it a facelift in 2015, it has not managed to make a significant impact. Hyundai is expected to launch the new model in India in 2017 and will hope that the car will make it a strong player in the segment like it once was.
