SsangYong Tivoli imported for research and development

Earlier this year, we had reported that Mahindra could bring the SsangYong Tivoli to India. Now, the company has imported two units of the compact SUV for research and development purposes.

The Tivoli is available with a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 124 BHP and a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine that develops 113 BHP. The imported vehicles have 1.6-litre engines and declared values of Rs. 7.55 lakh and Rs. 8.44 lakh.

The Tivoli 4,195 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width and 1,590 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. Its size makes it a competitor for the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Hyundai Creta and the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross.

At present, Mahindra has only one SsangYong offering on sale in India- the Rexton. The vehicle is positioned in the D2 segment and is being comfortably outsold by competitors such as the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Hyundai Santa Fe.
