Supreme Court extends BS4 vehicle registration deadline

The Supreme Court of India has extended the deadline for registration of BS4 vehicles.

The court has allowed retailers to sell 10% of the unsold BS4 inventory for certain number of days after the nationwide lockdown is called off. The court has also said that all vehicles which are sold but not registered will be allowed to be registered for a certain number of days after the Covid-19 lockdown ends on April 14, 2020. However, this order does not apply to Delhi-NCR, where BS4 sales will stop on March 31, 2020.

The court was hearing a plea filed by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) seeking an extension of the deadline as dealerships still had unsold BS4 inventory. The nationwide lockdown has also affected sales since the Covid-19 crisis began.
