Suzuki-Toyota alliance details out;to jointly develop new MPV

In February 2017, Toyota and Suzuki had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop a partnership. The two carmakers have now released details about their collaboration, which include their joint plans for India and the global market.

Suzuki will benefit from Toyota's expertise when it comes hybrid electric systems, engines and batteries, while the latter would leverage Suzuki's compact vehicle platforms.

In India, Suzuki will supply the Vitara Brezza, Baleno, Ciaz and Ertiga to Toyota. These models will also be exported to Africa. The Vitara Brezza will be built at the Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) plant near Bangalore from 2022. The two carmakers have also confirmed the joint development of a Toyota C-segment MPV in India.

In Europe, Toyota will supply electrified versions of the RAV4 and Corolla Wagon to Suzuki. As part of the deal, Suzuki will also gain access to the Toyota Hybrid System. In return, Toyota will adopt the newly developed Suzuki engines for compact vehicles. These engines will be supported by Denso and Toyota and will be manufactured at Toyota's factory in Poland.
