Tata Harrier or Safari? A good diesel SUV to replace my Renault Captur

Being the end of the year, I'm expecting good deals from the car brands, before hiking the prices next year.

BHPian anilntny recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I need to replace my 5-year-old Renault Captur. I wish to stick to diesel cars. It seems April 2023 onwards BS 6.2 norms will be implemented. I am worried will it further decrease the fun factor of diesel engines and of course the price is expected to be increased.

My options seem to be very limited. Since it is December, companies are giving good deals. I have shortlisted Tata Safari > Harrier and Jeep Compass Limited > Night Eagle.

Tata has an upcoming facelift but they will be coming with the newly updated diesel engine. So should I wait or buy a Jeep Compass?

I have also considered MG ZS EV and Kona EV facelift (yet to launched).

Here's what BHPian IshaanIan had to say on the matter:

I would recommend going through the forum before purchasing a Safari or a Harrier or a Compass. Literally, all the cars you have shortlisted have got a range of horror stories on our forum so it might be worth reading up on before taking the plunge. Why not check out the Citroen C5 instead?

Here's what BHPian DivyanshuDiv had to say on the matter:

Diesel engines are so fun to drive. There is no match for the torque, grunt and fun these brings to the vehicles. However, buying these engines at this time, and even in future is not recommended considering the emission norms and known/unknown problems associated with the same. I would suggest you look at the Innova Hycross hybrid or even wait for the MG Hector facelift that might bring some improved things under the hood. Personally, all three cars you mentioned are amazing to drive but a couple of them are on the verge of getting a makeover you can wait till auto-expo for some insights. Whereas, Compass has its own horror stories but still among them, the latter is a much-sorted product and fit-and-finish is notches above TATA twins. If you want to save some bucks, go for Jeep this month itself. I recently heard that one can get up to 1L to 2L of discounts on Compass and Meridian.

Here's what BHPian rajeshrajan had to say on the matter:

I had a similar shortlist earlier this year. Also included the XUV700 AX7 and the Innova. After my test drives and a spreadsheet, it was the MG ZS EV and bought it in March and took delivery on the 30th of Sept 2022.

Good luck with your hunt.
